FAQ

Common questions

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole process โ€” reading the image, sampling colors, and matching emoji โ€” happens in your browser using JavaScript and the Canvas API. Nothing is sent over the network.

What image formats can I use?

JPG, PNG, and WEBP all work well. Animated GIFs are supported but only the first frame is used.

Why do some emoji look slightly different?

Emoji are drawn using your operating system's built-in emoji font, so the exact artwork can vary a little between Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS โ€” though colors stay consistent enough for the mosaic to match well.

Does more detail always look better?

Not necessarily. A higher column count uses more, smaller tiles and reads as a clearer photo from a distance. A lower count gives bigger, more obviously emoji-shaped tiles with a chunkier, more graphic look. Try both.

Can I use the result for social media or printing?

Yes โ€” it's your photo, recreated with standard system emoji. Choose the Large output size for sharper prints or bigger posts.
